Launch of brand new season of films

Athlone Film Club is having its official launch of the new Autumn/Winter season on the Viking Heritage Ship tomorrow at 7pm, but you can now get a preview of the films on the website! The Viking Heritage Ship will be leaving from outside the Castle tomorrow evening at 7pm sharp, and everyone is welcome to join us.

We hope you will enjoy this season of viewing, and look forward to seeing you on 14th Sept for His & Hers - the must-see Irish film of the year!

A Feast of Film for Midland Audiences!

Athlone Film Club has a feast of films in store for midland audiences this autumn. The Club’s autumn season will commence on Tuesday 14th September at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre Athlone and will continue every second Tuesday until December.

The Club is launching its autumn season in style with an evening Shannon cruise on Thursday 2nd September on the Viking Boat with its captain Michael McDonnell, a long standing Film Club member. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer! Our thoughts are moving towards the next season which is kicking off next month with some great movies - award winners and Oscar nominated films among them.

We will be making some announcements shortly so keep an eye out for us...

Season finale - Everlasting Moments

Athlone Film Clubs finishes its spring season on Tuesday, April 27th at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre with the compelling Swedish masterpiece, Everlasting Moments.

In this breathtaking period drama from renowned Swedish director Jan Troell, a woman experiences an artistic awakening after being introduced to photography. Based on real life events and told with delicacy and feeling, Everlasting Moments slowly builds into a memorable salute to a remarkable life.

Don't forget - Rumba on in the Dean Crowe tonight. Very funny and well worth a look.

St Patrick's Day Parade awards - Athlone Film Club a winner (again)

The organising committee of the St Patrick's Day parade last night presented Athlone Film Club with the Best Original Entry award at a ceremony in the Shamrock Lodge hotel. We were delighted to receive it and we are prepared to walk through the streets of Athlone dressed up as film characters if it gets us some publicity and new members. We have no shame!

Rumba at the Dean Crowe...

On 13th April at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone Film Club presents the surreal comedy gem, Rumba. It’s Jacques Tati meets Mr Bean in this wonderful Belgo-French slapstick comedy that has seduced film festival audiences around the world directed by and starring Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy. The film opened in France in September 2008 and has had an audience of over 100,000 people in 4 weeks.

Following Athlone Film Club’s award for originality at the St.Patrick’s Day parade it is quite apt that the club’s next film pushes the borders on originality with a new kind of genre: the ‘eastern,’ or Asian western.
